WHAT DO WE DO ALL WEEK?
First, we learn to be SAFE! Riding and working around horses can be very dangerous if certain safety rules are not followed.
At our two riding sites, we have 40 horses, all of which have been tested for safety and most of which we have owned for years. Unlike some camps, we don't import our horses for the summer -- we use them all year round for lessons, trail rides, etc... so we know our horses very well! And we have one camp counselor for each 5 children, so everyone is closely supervised. Still, you must remember that horses are animals, and even the best ones can be unpredictable, so you must always BE CAREFUL! THERE ARE MANY SAFETY RULES WE WILL LEARN IN CAMP BEFORE WE RIDE!
Please read the following information so you'll know what to bring and how to dress.
1. Bring your own lunch. There is a water cooler, but any other beverage must be brought with you.
2. Bring a plain white T-shirt with you the first day. This will be used for Arts & Crafts later in the week.
3. Wear LONG PANTS and shoes or boots with hard soles and a small heel. You may bring shorts and sneakers for the lunch break only. T-shirts are fine.
4. Riding helmets will be worn during all mounted instruction. We will supply your helmet, but if you have your own, please bring it.
5. Our camp Horse Show will be held on Friday 12:15-1:15, followed by a BBQ for family and friends! Campers are expected to go home with their parents at 2:15 after the BBQ unless special arrangements are made.
* Note to parents: We do not send confirmation letters. If you have questions or wish to confirm your child's reservation, please call 410-658-8187. All $50.00 deposits are non-refundable.
NOW FOR THE FUN STUFF!
This is the basic schedule listing what will be covered in camp. You will be assigned to A or B group, according to your riding ability, (if you've never been on a horse before, that's o.k.!) and you will have a partner all week so that you can help each other in the various activities. You will also get a notebook with some handouts which you can take home. Your learning activities will be hands-on, in other words, working with a real horse, not just a piece of paper!
